Course Aim:
Sometimes a ladder is a step too far. Falls involving ladders and stepladders account on average for 14 deaths and 1200 major injuries to workers each year, most often due to inappropriate or incorrect use of the equipment. If you regularly use ladders or stepladders as part of your daily work, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to ensure your safety when positioning, erecting, using, moving and working from ladders and steps at height.

Topics Covered:
- Understand the main aims of Health & Safety Legislation (H&SWO 1978 NI, Work at Height 2005 Regulations, Management of Health & Safety at work Regulations, Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1999 NI
- Understand and identify typical components of ladders and steps
- Understand the importance of pre-use inspection
- Understand the hazards associated with positioning; erecting, using, moving and working from steps and ladders
- Carry out risk assessments for positioning; erecting, using, moving and working from steps and ladders
- Carry out a visual inspection and complete the appropriate report

All operatives who intend to or need to use ladders or stepladders to work from or so that they can access basic work platforms for work at height
